SUMMER READING PROGRAM - Cedar Park Public Library

The Cedar Park Public Library, in conjunction with the Texas State Library, is proud to present the 2010 Summer Reading Clubs:
"Catch the Reading Express!" for kids and adults and
"Within Arms Reach…The Future Is Yours: TTR.10!" for teens.

The Library's Summer Reading Clubs run from June 7th through July 31st and are open to all ages.  The program begins on June 7th with a Scholastic Book Fair, sponsored by the Friends of the Cedar Park Public Library.  The book fair will run from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm on June 7th and 8th, with special guests Clifford the Big Red Dog and The Teacher From the Black Lagoon who are available for visits and photographs from 10:00 am to noon during the book fair.

To participate in the Summer Reading Club, simply sign up at the Cedar Park Public Library beginning on June 7th and receive a reading packet.  For each 5 minutes of reading (or listening to) a Cedar Park Public Library book, the participant marks off one character on their reading chart.  Each kid's chart totals 200 minutes and each teen chart totals 300 minutes.  When the reading chart is completed, it is returned to the library and exchanged for the next level's reading chart.  Each level contains a new chart, a colored cut-out to display in the library's window and special incentive awards and coupons!

Adults
tally the time they read too!  For every 400 minutes read, an entry blank for a drawing prize is earned.  Thanks to the support of local area merchants and the Dell Foundation Literate Community grant, there are many terrific prizes to choose from!  All books must be read from the Cedar Park Public Library or purchased from the Scholastic Book Fair.  Audio books, newspapers and magazines from the library count too!

In addition to the library's regular storytimes, there will be special performers for Toddler/Preschool on Tuesdays, a book club for the Bluebonnet book list on Tuesdays, weekly family movies on Wednesdays, special performers for elementary-aged children on Thursdays, and teen activities on Saturdays.  A complete calendar of events is available at the library or online at http://www.cedarparktx.us/ .

Youth participants in the Summer Reading program can also sign up for a Fable Fest punch card after they have handed in their first reading log.  The card should be punched every time a reading log is handed in.  The participants with the most punches will be crowned as royalty at the
October 9th Fable Fest.  The Fable Fest is a family day filled with games, music, crafts, costumes and family entertainment.  This event is designed to help raise money for library enrichment.
