Summer Reading Club is a Success!
Thanks to all our patrons who participated in the Summer Reading Club this year! We had a great summer filled with fun events and, of course, lots and lots of reading.
We had the highest number of readers we've ever had registered in our Summer Reading Club. This year, 2,592 kids, 381 teens, and 895 adults signed up for a total of 3,868 Cedar Park readers.
We also had lots of fun at our weekly toddler and preschool performers. Whether dancing and singing with Mr. Johnny and Friends or going on safari with Miss Elizabeth, the little ones had a great time bopping along to our special performances. Almost every show was a packed house for a total number of 1,777 people enjoying our special toddler and preschool programs.
And don't forget the elementary-aged programs! This year we had an awesome variety of shows. From the creepy crawly Austin Reptile Service to the farewell performance of Cedar Park Public Library favorite Mr. Puppet, our K-5th grade readers had tons of fun at all our performances. All together we had an attendance total of 1,788 for our elementary programs.
Our teens also had a lot of fun this summer between Teen Book Club, Teen Library Council and our gaming events. We had rocking Guitar Hero tournament, a smashing Super Smash Brothers Brawl tournament, and a face-paced Mario Kart tournament.
The Summer Reading Club came to a close at our annual picnic at Milburn Park. Despite the heat, we had lots of folks in attendance and everyone had a great time rockin' to the Sugar Free Allstars. Winners of the drawing prizes were announced, as were the winners of our Fable Fest court. These are the kids who read the most out of all our participants this year. The winners are listed at the left of this page.
All Summer Reading Club participants should be proud this year everyone together read a whopping 1,670,400 minutes!!! Thanks for a great summer! We look forward to doing it all again next year and keep reading!
Special thanks to the Texas Commission on the Arts for their support of the Lucas Miller and Laura Freeman programs.
